Come and Meet the Owner/Winemaker for Trentham Wine Estate on Saturday 16th May 2009.

From 11am to 4pm Anthony Murphy will be here at Dunell's to showcase his outstanding wines.

Trentham is a small, award winning boutique winery specialising in varietal grape growing situated on the New South Wales side of the Murray River near Mildura. Anthony’s winemaking philosophy is to produce high-quality varietal wines at an affordable price. So successful they are, it is the first and only winery in Mildura region to get the James Haliday 5 star rating.

The wines on tasting are:

Unoaked Chardonnay 'Willandra' @ £7.25 per bottle

A soft, fresh unoaked Chardonnay with lifted fruit flavours and a zesty palate, the perfect accompaniment to chicken, salads and seafood dishes. INTERNATIONAL WINE CHALLENGE 2006- SILVER MEDAL

Shiraz 'Willandra' @ £7.25 per bottle

Inspired by the surrounding rich cultural heritage and aged, timeless environment of the Willandra region, Murphy Vineyards have carefully crafted this attractive wine which displays fresh natural fruit flavours and balanced complexities. Displays lifted spice and plum on the nose with a rich, ripe fruit palate. Superb value for money!

Albarino @ £8.95 per bottle

This is a fresh, attractive fruit driven wine displaying subtle peach and pear aromas. The palate is soft and long consisting of stone fruit characters balanced with subtle citrus flavours. This wine has won numerous gold medals including Decanter Magazine’s Gold Medal.

Pinot Noir @ £7.95 per bottle

This Pinot Noir is made from four different clones which produce grapes of varying colour and flavour, which adds complexity and weight to the final wine. The combination of good ripe fruit and careful handling has produced attractive berry fruit flavours and toasty oak aromas with a very soft lingering finish.

Heathcote Shiraz @ £11.60 per bottle (Currently one of our favourites in-store at the moment)

All we can say is WOW. This is a truly outstanding Shiraz. It's not a ‘heavy’, ‘oaky’ Aussie but is extremely well-balanced and moreish. The nose has lovely, subtle oaked cigar-box characters with soft vanilla from well-judged oak maturation. The palate is extremely smooth, clean and classy with velvety black fruits and warm spicy nuances accentuated by the soft vanillin oak. It is an impeccably made Shiraz. Trentham Estate was ecstatic to announce that its 2005 Heathcote Shiraz received the top award for a Shiraz/Syrah at the 2008 International Wine & Spirit Competition in London.

Noble Taminga (Half) @ £6.65 per bottle

Unlike many Australian sweet white styles, the Noble Taminga is very much a 'fruit driven' wine without dominating botrytis characters or excessive sweetness. The wine displays lifted citrus and apricot aromas with balanced luscious sweetness and a dry soft finish. The Estate has been producing a Noble Taminga for over ten years and the aim is to capture the exotic fruit flavours of this variety, without too much over-riding botrytis character.
